Just taken delivery of a Sony RX100 iii. I wanted a compact camera that I can always have on me. My Olympus E-PL5 is great but not quite small enough to fit in trouser, coat or shirt pocket.

The Sony looks very promising. Although the sensor is smaller at 1 inch than the micro four thirds sensor of the Olympus it promises to offer great performance. The built in zoom lens is fast with a maximum aperture of 1.8 at the lower end of the zoom range. The icing on the cake would have been a touch sensitive screen like the E-PL5 but life is never perfect.

Wi-fi connection to iPad or iPhone works well - very easy to set up and transfer images.

One feature which I think was unintended by Sony is the pop up flash which you can tilt up with one finger to achieve bounce flash.

Very early days yet, but a couple of low light photos from the first few days of ownership
